Hello Sow’n Seeds parents and scholars, my name is Kanitha Metzger. I am one of the visionary founders of Sow’n Seeds Youth Group, an academic latchkey program in Detroit. Our mission is to offer middle-school aged children with a high quality, equitable after-school educational experience that empowers them to be successful in and out of the classroom; providing growth opportunities for character development, leadership, and service. I have received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Wayne State University and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of Michigan Dearborn. I am a passionate educator of 12 years, and I currently serve as an assistant principal. When I’m not involved with Sow’N Seeds, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our two beautiful children, our 24 year-old daughter, and 2-year-old son. In my leisure time, I enjoy creating faith-based content, gardening in the summer, cooking with family, reading, and thrifting. I believe that education is a lifelong journey of growth, where meaningful experiences, curiosity, and resilience empower individuals to unlock their potential to transform the world. The pursuit of knowledge remains a constant in my life. I aspire to impart a love for learning among the children at Sow’N Seeds. Where we are planting success and growing scholars.
Greetings, Sow’n Seeds parents, scholars, friends, and partners. I am honored to serve with my co-founder, Kanitha Metzger, in our vision to provide middle-school-aged children with a high-quality equitable after-school educational experience that empowers them to be successful in academia, providing growth opportunities for character development, leadership, and service. I have received my bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education. I serve as a State-Certified 7th grade English Educator and Lead Teacher in the UPA School District, where I have taught grades 6-8. I have also served as an English teacher and Lead for 3 years at Detroit Country Day School for grades 6 and 7, where every year, each of my classes achieved their 80-85% mastery goal by the end of the academic year. I am enrolled in a Business Master’s Program in Organizational Leadership, where I am half complete, finishing in August of 2025. In my free time, I enjoy time with my family, my husband of 25 years, and our children, ages 22, 21, and 19. Together, we enjoy serving in our church and serving our community through the non-profit in which this program is based. I believe that college is not for everybody, but education IS, and it is important that we cultivate gifts in our youth that prepare them to succeed in all aspects of life.
